07 Aug 2018 James Halliday Wine Companion
The 2018 Halliday Wine Companion results were announced last week, and we’re beyond proud to share that Montara again received a five star winery rating, with four of our wines scoring 93 points or more. Congrats to our team for a job well done!
2016 Montara Grampians Riesling – 95 points (BUY HERE)
An off-dry style, this has texture galore filling out the palate, mostly it’s an ode to citrus with grapefruit pith and juiciness, home-made lemon-lime cordial and cleansing acidity. Sure it’ll age but it’s stunning now.
2014 Chalambar Road Reserve Shiraz – 95 points (not yet released)
Impressive and easy to like this full-bodied, richly flavoured spicy shiraz with its dark purple-black impenetrable hue. Concentrated dark fruit, pepper, earth, bitumen and more with grainy, textural and sweet tannins. Just tastes good, and while this will age effortlessly, looks smart now.
2015 Montara Grampians Shiraz – 94 points (not yet released)
Wonderful dark-red hue, reductive, opens up to reveal lots of ripeness and succulence with a whirl of dark fruit and woodsy spices, pepper and juniper. Full-bodied, with restrained gritty tannins and all the joy of shiraz from the Grampians.
2015 Montara Grampians Cabernet Sauvignon – 93 points (BUY HERE)
Unusual if appealing flavours of crushed coriander, saltbush, juniper, cassis and pencil lead. There’s a vibrancy to the fruit and feel of the wine, it needs more time for the tightly coiled palate to unfurl to showcase its arrowhead, precise tannins.
2015 Chalambar Road Reserve Pinot Noir – 92 points (not yet released)
2015 Montara Grampians Gold Rush Chardonnay – 90 points (BUY HERE)
