New Releases: 2016 Montara Chardonnay & 2015 Montara Cabernet Sauvignon

New Releases: 2016 Montara Chardonnay & 2015 Montara Cabernet Sauvignon

Introducing two of our latest releases: the 2016 Montara Chardonnay and the 2015 Montara Cabernet Sauvignon – both now available in cellar door and online!

The 2016 is an exceptional Chardonnay and excellent cellaring prospect. Harvested in the cool of night by machine, the grapes were gently pressed to stainless steel for settling, and the juice was then subsequently racked to French oak hogsheads for natural fermentation, with temperatures not exceeding 25°C.  At the conclusion of fermentation, the wine remained on barrel lees for 10 months prior to filtration and bottling.

Aromatics:  Aromas of grapefruit, melon with spicy French oak.

Palate:  Grapefruit/lemon flavours with fresh zingy natural acidity. Oak contributes a cedary rich balance that tames the steely acidity.

The 2015 Montara Cab recently received 93 points in Halliday’s Wine Companion and is a truly great drop from our region.

Grapes were harvested by machine in late March 2015, de-stemmed, and gently pumped to eight tonne open tanks for fermentation. The wine was pressed after 12 days on skins to 40% new French oak hogsheads for 15 months maturation prior to bottling.

Aromatics:  Varietal red to black fruits, cedar, spice, bay leaf, cedary lifted oak.

Palate: Cassis blackcurrant, concentrated flavours of plums. The French oak provides savoury spice/structural balance to accompany the ripe fruit tannins. Fresh natural acidity provides vibrancy and palate length.

This wine will cellar for the long haul 10+ years) and most definitely has a bright future.
