We make some extraordinary Shiraz in the Grampians. 1. Montara Single Vineyard Shiraz . Available online exclusively for Chalambar Club members. A very limited small batch vinification and bottling sourced from a single vineyard of Shiraz located at the highest point of the Montara vineyard. A warmer than usual vintage has yielded a wine of rich concentration, spice, and layered flavours characteristic of our site in the Grampians region.
Aromatics: Ripe fruit of blueberry, plums and spice with lifted violets.
Palate: Soft, yet velvety ripe tannins with dark fruits of satsuma plum, dark cherry and supporting sweet cedary French oak.
Cellaring potential: 10+ years 2.Montara Estate Shiraz . Dark fruits of blackcurrant and spicy fruit compote with an integrated cedary finish. Fine integrated tannins give the wine structure, integrity and elegance.
Grapes were harvested by machine and hand from the Montara Estate plantings. Fruit was destemmed before transfer to 2 and 8 tonne open fermenters. Twice daily pump overs and punch downs were conducted to extract the desired colour and tannin. Wine was transferred to 25% new French oak hogsheads and puncheons for maturation prior to bottling.
An extremely elegant age worthy Grampians Shiraz made for the long haul. Careful cellaring will reward.
