A note from the Winemaker, Simon Fennell

The vineyard is progressing well with flowering now complete- we look forward to fruit set and the home stretch towards vintage 2019.

The growing season has been a bit drier than hoped, but with a good even flowering/fruit set we look forward to a quality, healthy and fruitful harvest.

2017 Shiraz wines have just been bottled. The quality of the 2017 vintage is exceptional, with a brand new Montara Shiraz/Viognier going to bottle, also a 2017 Montara Chalambar Rd Shiraz.

The 2017 Chalambar Rd is right up there with some of the best wines I have ever had the priviliged to make. Truly delicious!

New releases

Our 2016 Montara Shiraz has just been released and is now available.

A delicious release from the Montara winery. A ripe year, but displays lovely balance and integrity. Certainly a cellar worthy Grampians Shiraz.

This wine recently received a Gold, and was narrowly defeated by our friends at Taltarni for ‘Champion Victorian Shiraz’ at The Great Australian Shiraz Challenge. A wonderful result for the team. The wine also scored 95 points in the latest James Halliday Wine Companion.

Very proud indeed!

On the topic of Gold, our newly released 2017 Montara Pinot Noir collected gold at the recent Victorian Wine Show. This wine oozes varietal definition and regionality, and was warmly complimented by the judging panel.

Certainly one of my favourites to drink from the Montara stable at the minute! An awesome lighter red wine for the warmer months.

The 2017 Riesling is also proving to be a popular drop with judges and punters alike- taking home Consumers Champion Riesling at the Western Victorian Wine Challenge, Gold at the Melbourne International Wine Awards, Silver at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show, and to cap it off- a Silver at Rutherglen Wine Show.

The Riesling is an off-dry style and has a silky-soft palate with hallmark regional lemon/lime characters. A great drink, ideal for consumption in the summer of 2018!

Some other awesome news just in………Our 2018 Montara ‘Old Vines’ Riesling achieved a Gold medal at the prestigious Canberra International Riesling Challenge.

Always a thrill to win a gold in great company at an international event.
